In June and July of 2006, five South African women (average age 55 years) walked ± 700kms along the old VF pilgrimage trail from Switzerland to Rome. They raised over R50 000 for Homenet Children's Charities. This is their story - written on their blog in towns and villages along the way.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
Only 13 more sleeps!! Two weeks today we will be in Switzerland! After a 4 ½ hour cruise on a Swiss ferry across Lac Leman from Geneva to Vevey we will book into our backpackers. We were told that we could have one room with three beds and one room with one great bed. Will have to arm wrestle each other for the great bed!
We start walking on Friday 16th June along the shores of Lac Leman. Good luck to all OUR COMRADES runners! When you finish your race we will still have ± 600 kilometres to go!
This is a picture of the route of our first 4 days in the Alps. We will stay in a B&B in Aigle on Friday 16th - A campsite in Martigny on Saturday 17th. A gite in Orsieres on Sunday 18th - and - the Grand St Bernard Hospice when we reach the Gr St Bernard Pass on Monday 19th. Then its into Italy through the Aosta Valley for four more days of mountain walking.
On Thursday Kathy, Rayna and Sil went for their Visa's - they were so excited they couldn't help dancing in the street!
